DENSO Aftermarket wins SAS Supplier Award in the sustainability category
Eching / Bern, 22 August 2025 – The SAS Supplier Awards annually recognise the achievements of strategic partners in the areas of innovation, sustainability, logistics and marketing. In the sustainability category, the jury selected DENSO Aftermarket, who was able to achieve significant ecological improvements within its packaging and information processes thanks to a structured three-step plan. The award ceremony took place during an evening event in the ballroom of BernExpo – one day before the start of Derendinger's Swiss Automotive Show.
Sustainability through consistent change in packaging and logistics
DENSO Aftermarket launched the packaging project in March 2022 with the aim of reducing CO₂ emissions, avoiding waste and optimising material use – without compromising product protection or handling. The implementation took place in three phases:
- Digitisation of installation manual: Replacement of the previous 54-page A4 printed manual with a compact A5 flyer with a QR code link to the digital instructions. The saving: over 30 tonnes of paper per year.
- Conversion of inner packaging: Replacement of polyurethane foam, which is difficult to recycle, with 100% recycled paper. The saving: 51 tonnes of plastic and foam per year.
- Redesign of outer packaging: Introduction of a uniform, recycling-friendly cardboard design with reduced use of colour. The savings: 258 kg of ink per year, improved stackability and logistics processes.
Focus on digitalisation and communication
A revised labelling system complements the new packaging concept: in addition to QR codes for technical instructions, warranty details and environmental information, clearly visible recycling symbols support the easy separation and recycling of packaging materials. In addition, digital access to product-specific information is being further expanded.
Sustainability as an integral part of DENSO's strategy
The project is part of DENSO Aftermarket's overarching sustainability programme and underlines the company's commitment to taking responsibility along the entire value chain. By converting its packaging line, DENSO is making a measurable contribution to reducing its carbon footprint in the aftermarket – while at the same time improving handling, logistics and customer communication.
"Winning the SAS Supplier Award in the sustainability category is an important confirmation of our strategy of combining environmental responsibility with concrete measures in the aftermarket. Our three-stage packaging project shows how we can implement practical and effective solutions together with our local partners. I would like to thank the entire team and Derendinger for their trusting cooperation," says Thomas Landgraf, Area Sales Manager for Switzerland at DENSO Aftermarket, who accepted the award.
Availability and outlook
The new packaging has already been introduced for DENSO thermal components and cabin filters throughout Europe. The roll-out to the rest of the portfolio will take place by the end of 2025.
